Tom McKean

June 25, 1947 - November 6, 2025

Tom McKean, age 78, entered the welcoming arms of heaven on November 6, 2025 after a struggle with his health.

Born in Milwaukee and raised in New Berlin, Wisconsin, Tom was the son of Joe and Mary Ellen McKean and one of eight children. He was a graduate of Catholic Memorial High School and then, Northern Illinois University where he earned his degree in sociology. Around this time, Tom joined the Catholic Extension missionary program, and it was through this that he met his wife, Elaine, of 51 years. Tom worked for the City of Milwaukee’s health department for his entire career. He was a devoted catholic and enjoyed staying involved in parish councils and other church activities. In retirement, he worked as a sacristan at the St. Francis convent, a job he loved. Keeping track of catholic news was one of his trademarks.

Tom also enjoyed yardwork, talking with neighbors, and above all else, reading. Traveling and attending many family events were also things he enjoyed. As time passed, Tom was instrumental in caring for his beloved wife, Elaine, who fell victim to dementia in her later years. Tom and Elaine were devoted members of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church for over 30 years.

Tom is survived by his four children: Jeff (Lori) McKean, Greg (Traci) McKean, Becky (Michael) King, and Shelley (Eder) Aguirre. He is also survived by siblings: Mary (Rick) Burbey, Phil (Roseann) McKean, Larry McKean, Pat McKean (Dennis), Sharon (Paul) Volz, and Nancy (Jeff) Lampone. He is further survived by his nine grandchildren: Benn and Adam McKean, Emma and Violet McKean, Jacob and Lucas King, and Charlotte, William, and Elliott Aguirre. Tom is survived as well by cousins, friends, and other relatives.

Tom was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and sister: Connie O’Heron, nephew: Peter Smith.

Visitation will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 3722 S. 58th St., Milwaukee, on Friday, November 14th, 2025  at 10 AM, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM.
