Robert Wieland

Robert Wieland

Our hearts are heavy as we share the news of Robert Wieland's passing on October 12, 2025. Rob was 47 and taken from us way too soon. He brought joy, laughter and warmth to everyone who knew him. A beloved husband to Lindsay and dedicated father to Louise, as well as a son to Nancy Wieland and Ren (Suzanne) Rodee, godson to Kerri (Dean) Traber and Jeffrey (Donna) Wieland, uncle, cousin, nephew, brother- and son-in-law, and friend to countless others.

Rob was a freelance writer, penning game reviews and articles about nerd culture for Forbes, the Milwaukee Record and several other platforms. He developed a comic book, Girls’ Heist Out, authored a coffee table book, The History of Choppers, and contributed to countless game books.

Rob was a significant figure in the TTRPG (tabletop roleplaying game) space and a talented game designer with over 20 years experience in that arena.  Rob was guest of honor at several conventions and was instrumental in fundraising for philanthropic causes by hosting charity games. Rob was great at bringing people together, whether that be by running games for friends new and old, lending his talents to Awkward Nerd Events gatherings, hosting trivia nights or Nerds at Heart speed-dating events, or livestreaming games with Theatre of the Mind Players.

The Milwaukee Record beautifully and accurately summed up Rob's essence: “Rob was kind, inclusive, and thoughtful. He represented the very best of so many different communities. The outpouring of grief following the news of Rob’s death speaks not only to his reach, but to his character. He was one of the good ones. One of the best ones. He will be forever missed. Our hearts go out to Rob’s family and friends.”

Please join us to share stories, memories, hugs and laughs in celebration of Rob's life. Services will be held at the Bruskiewitz Funeral Home, 5355 W. Forest Home Avenue in Milwaukee, on November 8, 2025, with visitation at 1:00 pm and a service at 2:00 pm. We invite you to wear something colorful, casual, maybe Hawaiian, or your favorite nerdy t-shirt. We're sure that's what Rob would want.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a GoFundMe for the benefit of Rob’s family or the charity of your choice.
