Raymond G. Markowski

Passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on June 18, 2021 at the age of 99.

Raymond, 2 months shy of his 100th birthday, is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Theresa (nee Cyganiak), and three beloved children, Paul (Kerry), Mary Ellen, and Karen (Steve) Schlomann, and special family friend Terri Mitchell. Papa or Dziadek (as his grandkids called him) adored his 7 grandchildren (Megan Markowski, Melissa (Justin) Hales, Lauren Markowski, Brendan (Katie) Markowski, Patryk, Renata and Ewelina Schlomann), and 6 great-grandchildren (Kayla, Brody and Tanner Hales , Liam and Rory House and Miles Markowski). Ray was preceded in death by his brothers, Richard, Norbert, and Gilbert and his sister Evelyn (Bernard) Hinz. Survived by sister-in-laws, Lois and Kathleen Markowski and many loving nieces and nephews.

In his younger years Ray was a proud member of Woodrow Wilson Post #11 (later 5th District VFW Militaires) drum and bugle corps. Starting as the corps drum major, he later served as the corps manager and drill instructor, and was with the group for 20 years.
Raymond was an employee of the City of Milwaukee Treasurer's Office for 35 years and retired as head cashier in 1983. Ray served as a volunteer in many capacities including treasurer of Blessed Sacrament Parish for 20 years, and was very involved with the parish serving as usher, Holy Name Society president, coach, and youth activities volunteer. Raymond loved his Polish heritage. He served as Financial Secretary of Polish National Alliance Lodge 358 for 55 years, and was a member of the Milwaukee Society as well as other fraternal organizations.

Visitation will be Wednesday, June 23, 2021 at Holy Apostles Catholic Church, 16000 W. National Ave., New Berlin, from 10 AM to 12:15 PM, followed by the Catholic Mass of Christian Burial at 12:30 PM. Interment at St. Adalbert's Cemetery.

Ray will be greatly missed by all who knew him here on earth, but he has gone forward to prepare a place for all of us when we reunite with him in the heavenly kingdom. Do zobaczenia w niebie.
