Andrew "Andrij" Pyskir

Andrew “Andrij” Pyskir of Greendale, WI, passed away peacefully at his home at the age of 94.

Andrew was born in Komarno, Ukraine. During World War II, he and his family fled both Soviet and Nazi forces, eventually settling in Landeck, Austria. In 1949, he immigrated to the United States with his family and arrived on his 18th birthday.

He proudly served his adopted country in the U.S. Army before building a long and successful career as a machinist in the construction equipment industry, retiring from Caterpillar Tractor Company in Milwaukee, WI.

Andrew was a dedicated and lifelong parishioner of Saint Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, where he served in various roles, generously volunteered his time, and helped lead numerous fundraising efforts. He was also an active member of the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America, where he proudly upheld his Ukrainian heritage.

A man of many interests, Andrew especially loved playing golf with his family and friends, reading history books, playing cards, and spending time outside enjoying nature and taking care of his yard. His deep love for his family was evident in every aspect of his life.

Andrew was the devoted husband of nearly 70 years to his wife Jaroslawa (nee Tyndyk) Pyskir, and a proud father and grandfather. He is survived by his children: Marta (Dr. Benjamin) Van Raalte and their children Andrew and Natalie; Roman (Lydia) Pyskir and their children Stephan and Alexandrea; and Christina (Dr. Andrew) Strigenz and their children Anna (Reilly) and Adam (Madeleine). He is also survived by his sister Irene Pyskir-Bilak, sister-in-law Irena Wolowczuk, and many loving nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his beloved son George Pyskir, his brother Walter Pyskir, and his parents Anna and Theodore Pyskir.
