Harry Taylor Fleddermann

Harry Taylor Fleddermann peacefully entered the glorious kingdom on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at the age of 86 years.
Harry was the loving brother of Karl Michael Fleddermann; sisters-in-law Janet Kaye Fleddermann and Charrell Stein; uncle of Angelique Champagne, Denise Champagne Flores, Nicole Champagne and Beth Stein; great uncle of Jimmy Strosnider, Jr., Ben and Anna Zaeske and Emily Ann Champagne.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Margaret Fleddermann, parents Harry and Ethel Fleddermann, sister Ethel Champagne and brother Martin Paul Fleddermann.
Harry was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. He attended Jesuit High School there; entered the Jesuit Novitiate at Grand Coteau, Louisiana; completed undergraduate studies at Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama; and graduated with a Ph.D. in Biblical Studies from the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, California.
He is a world-recognized first century Christian theologian, well-known for writing the revolutionary works Q: A Reconstruction and Commentary (2005) and Mark and Q: A Study of the Overlap Texts (1995). His most recent teaching position was as Professor of Religious Studies at Alverno College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, before retiring.
Harry was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes (OLOL) Parish in Milwaukee for over 30 years. He taught catechesis and biblical study classes at OLOL and at Tepeyac’s Summer Institute in El Paso, Texas. He was a participant and contributor to annual meetings of the American Academy of Religion and the Society of Biblical Literature.
Life’s pleasures for Harry were celebrating his wife, Margaret, rejoicing in family, friends, art, and travelling, particularly to Paris and Amsterdam! In earlier days, he loved running, swimming, and competitive debates.
The family wishes to thank the caring staff at Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center and Aurora Zilber Family Hospice for their dedication, compassion and support during Harry’s transition. We hold dearly the many neighbors and friends who lovingly cared for him throughout.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 3722 S. 58th St., Milwaukee, starting at 10AM, followed by the Mass of the Resurrection at 11AM. Interment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 3801 W. Morgan Ave., Milwaukee.
