Maria Muriel-Fuertes

Born to Life on April 17, 1917 in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico. Entered Eternal Rest on Monday, September 28, 2020 at age 103 in Milwaukee, WI.

Maria came to the United States when she was in her early 20's, first to New York, then Chicago and later settling in Milwaukee. She worked all of her life as a seamstress, but devoted her free time to the things she loved including her love for the Lord and serving in church ministry, dancing, cooking, crocheting, and plants and  flowers, especially roses and orchids. Her favorite scripture verses were John 20:21 and Matthew 20:1-16.

Maria is survived by her beloved children Herminio (Ivette) Sanchez, Angel Sanchez, Julia (Kenneth) Watkins, Carlos Berrios and Raymond Castro. She raised two of her grandchildren and was known to them as their mother: Lydia (Charles) Reaves and the late Herminio Sanchez Jr. She is also survived by 24 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, and many friends and staff who loved her at Community Care for the Elderly. Maria is preceded in death by her son Hector Sanchez, sister Eufemia Muriel, brother Florencio Muriel and parents Josefa BonaFont Fuertes and Demetrio Carmona.

Viewing will be held at the Bruskiewitz Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 6th, 2020 from 4-7 PM, with a small Prayer Service at 6:30 PM.

Funeral Services and burial will take place on Friday, October 9th, 2020 in Fajardo, Puerto Rico.
