Del R. Bornitz

Delbert Bornitz went to the Lord on January 24, 2024, at the age of 93.


Del was born on September 28, 1930, in Goodwin, South Dakota. Del, his brother Don, and their family moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where Del attended Riverside High School. Del excelled in sports. He received his letterman sweater and letter in Basketball. He was also awarded the “All State” trophy.


Del joined the Army after high school. At one point he was stationed in Hawaii, where he was chosen to appear in the movie “From Here to Eternity.”


Del married Helen (née Walicki) in January 1956 after returning from the Army.


Del then built a house in Milwaukee that they lived in for many years. Del was a loyal and proud firefighter with the Milwaukee Fire Department for 35 years. Del and Helen moved to Waukesha in later years. After celebrating 40 years of marriage, his devoted wife, Helen, went to be with the Lord in 1996.


In Del’s retirement years he kept very busy with his dear companion (the late) Patricia Delanty and then Ruth Resch.

He was part of the Riverside Reunion Committee. He loved to attend the weekly fireman breakfast and church festivals. He enjoyed playing darts and cards, as well as traveling to many places. A favorite place of his was Harrah’s Hotel in Las Vegas.


Beloved husband of the late Helen (née Walicki). Survived by his brother Don (the late Helen) Bornitz, Brother-in-law John (the late Christine) Walicki, Dear friends Ruth Resch and Cindy Reyes, numerous nieces and nephews with special nephew Gary (Nicole) Walicki and niece Lori (Jeff Kukla) Walicki and other relatives and friends.


Del was a very polite, handsome gentleman with a great sense of humor and an extremely contagious smile. He will be missed by many.


Visitation Tuesday, May 28th, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 3100 S. 41st St., followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow at 1 PM at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Union Grove, WI.
